Dr. John Kwon, DPT, OCS

Physical Therapist, Orthopedic Certified Specialist & Owner

Dr. John Kwon has been a licensed physical therapist since the year of 2000. He graduated cum laude with a Master in Physical Therapy at Loma Linda University in 2000. Dr. Kwon completed the year-long Kaiser Orthopedic Residency program in order to gain valuable hands on orthopedic clinical skills. He became a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association in 2003. John later received the Clinical Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree at Western University in 2004. Dr. Kwon explored his passion in clinical education by joining the faculty of the nation’s top physical therapy institution, University of Southern California, as an adjunct professor for the orthopedic curriculum. He had the privilege of working alongside some of the most respected and renowned experts in the field of physical therapy. Dr. Kwon enjoys furthering the profession by working as a clinical instructor for USC’s graduate students. He finds helping students mature into great clinicians one of the most rewarding aspects of his career. To enhance his exercise versatility, Dr. Kwon successfully completed the Pilates certification through the Body Arts and Science Institute in 2010 and recently became credentialed by the Titleist Performance Institute as a Golf Performance Specialist. He enjoys playing golf, analyzing the golf swing, and helping golfers get back to their sport. He is a member of the Aliso Viejo Country Club and performs golf performance seminars regularly in the community.

Dr. Kwon’s treatment philosophy incorporates the use of total body movement (kinetic linking) exercises and integrative manual therapy to assist his clients back to their athletic or functional prowess. He has extensive experience in manual therapy, having successfully completed the Kaiser Orthopedic Residency and numerous continuing education courses to enhance his manipulative skills. Dr. Kwon believes that it is integral to implement the use of manipulative therapy to cause neuro-dynamic changes to the joint, which increases joint mobility and assists the attached soft tissue structures to regain normal tension. Soft tissue mobilization techniques can further relax and lengthen the muscle and aide pain relief. These changes can be maintained with corrective exercises targeted to first strengthen the core and then the peripheral extremities to further restore posture and optimal bodily movement. He has been inspired by experts within the profession of physical therapy like Dr. Vladimir Janda and Dr. Freddy Kaltenborn who have paved the path towards innovative movement science and manipulative therapy techniques respectively.

Dr. Kwon is happily married to the love of his life Sonya and they have two beautiful daughters, Kylie and Khloe, who dance competitively. John and Sonya own and operate PAVE School of the Arts dance studio in Aliso Viejo. John is considered an expert in assessing and treating dance related injuries. His background in movement science and pilates has enabled him to implement a dance performance and injury prevention program at PAVE. He also provides musculoskeletal screening with Dr. David Kruse for his ballet dancers to ensure a safe transition to Ballet Pointe.

John and Sonya enjoy traveling around the world, playing golf, and entertaining guests at their home.
