I have been a daily recreational runner for 50 years and a competitive 5k runner for the last 40. Over that period, running has become an essential part of each day of my life and a treasured source of joy, comfort and calm.
In 1980 I was crushed by a car and suffered severe orthopedic and brain damage as well as experiencing the joy and calm of a near death experience.
After 2 months in the hospital I was released and desperately hoped to regain my personal and professional life. Returning to running was my highest priority. I was told by 2 preeminent orthopedic surgeons that I would never run again and to expect severe traumatic arthritis later in life.
I disregarded their advice and put myself on a self devised recovery
schedule. After 1 year I started running again. Since then I have
completed 45,000 running miles and returned to monthly 5k racing.
When the inevitable happened and my hip deteriorated to very painful bone on bone arthritis, I was forced to stop my beloved running. Once again, I was told by the medical profession that my running days were definitely over. Sadness overcame me and total hip replacement surgery was scheduled three months out.
CPPT was highly recommended to me and I spent three months under the unbelievable expert care and attention of Christie assisted by Rylan in CPPT's immaculate, friendly and understanding Irvine office. Christie devised an amazing program to prepare me for surgery and I devoted myself every to preparing for surgery under her guidance.
After surgery I continued with a post op program devised by Christie and implemented by both her and Rylan.
Thanks to Team Christie I took my first running steps 3 months after commencing my post op recovery program and am doing intervals 3 times a week. My first 5k race is scheduled for Independence Day, July 4th!
My soul has returned to me and I feel the joy of running again, even if temporally reduced in time and distance. Thank you eternally Christie, Rylan, Tish and Alley and for all the supportive smiles that everyone at CPPT shared with me at each visit .
