How to pair Personal Training with your physical therapy?
So you just started physical therapy for your knee replacement and this means you can’t workout while you’re completing your rehab. This is totally wrong! Just because you’re coming to physical therapy for one ailment, whether it is a knee replacement, pain in your low back, or a torn rotator cuff, it does not mean that you have to stop working on the rest of your body! What it actually means is that you need to become more aware of how to train around your body’s current ailment in order to stay healthy and heal properly.
While in physical therapy, your routine will need to change to accommodate for your current injury. This is where it can get tricky, especially when we are used to our daily habits and bits of exercise that we are comfortable with, and that we know how to do already. So, what do you do when it’s time to protect your current ailment? Hopefully it doesn’t start with Youtube videos, because you have a large group of highly trained professionals at your disposal right here at Core Performance PT! It would be the perfect time to try out some personal training with one of our certified personal trainers available in both clinics. Trust us on this one; the best way to ensure you are staying healthy and improving your body around your injury is to ask a trained professional.
So when it comes down to finally being discharged from physical therapy, you will be fully healed and in great shape to continue with personal training or resume your old workout regimen.
But what if you’re not used to working out but you’re just now starting physical therapy? Personal training would just be another great jump start into a regular exercise routine. The question, in this case, is where do you start?
The best place is to begin with your physical therapy exercise routine and, as you begin to progress from your initial program, you can transition into some personal training to target the other areas of your body that you aren’t focusing on during your physical therapy. This way when it comes time to be discharged you will have an idea of how to continue with exercises for your old ailment as well as for the rest of your body. You will also have the opportunity to continue your personal training program with your trainer at Core Performance (of course) and really begin to excel and take control of your physical health.
So why is personal training with us such a great option? With our trained staff of both physical therapists and personal trainers we will be able to create a plan of action that is catered to your needs and that safely incorporates rehab and training. We will get you back to what you love to do whether it is golfing, surfing, running marathons, or even starting you on the process to begin new activities you’ve always dreamed of!
Ask your therapist or any of our staff here at Core Performance PT and we can guide you down the right path to begin your personal training program.
